About Real Estate Data Maps
Project information ยท updated July 28, 2026
Real Estate Data Maps is an independent software and data-research project. Its purpose is to make geographically detailed public information easier to compare before someone begins property-level research. It is not a government website, real-estate brokerage, appraisal service, lender, lead-generation form, or listing marketplace.
What the project publishes
Each metro combines census-tract geometry with measures from the U.S. Census Bureau and other identified public or established sources. The result is both an interactive map and a server-rendered metro report. Users can inspect definitions, coverage, formulas and source dates, then export the selected tract measure as CSV.
Editorial and quality process
Data ingestion and page generation are automated because the project covers tens of thousands of tracts. Publication is not automatic. A metro must pass explicit coverage checks for geometry, population, housing, market, health, hazards and roads. Local layers without adequate coverage are marked unavailable. Source-specific limitations are disclosed on the metro page and reviewed when pipelines change.
Derived metrics use published formulas rather than opaque predictions. Race and ethnicity are available only as descriptive Census layers and are excluded from the neighborhood-strength and hardship composites.
Independence and project identity
The project is maintained independently and has no paid relationship with the government agencies or data publishers it cites. The maintainer's public software profile is github.com/austinday. The site does not accept property listings, paid rankings or requests to alter an area's score.
Corrections
Source data can change and geographic joins can be imperfect. A correction should identify the metro URL, tract or city label, disputed value and authoritative source. Corrections are evaluated against the original dataset; documented source corrections are incorporated during the next rebuild rather than silently hand-editing one map.
